yes i do review games for the hell of it. i warn you all now that i am extremely harsh on games and you may not like what i say but take it all in stride, i dont hate genres of games or most games that i review, if i finished a game it means i enjoyed it enough to get to the end. no sit back and enjoy a review of Lost Odyssey...
Lost Odyssey, brought to you by that guy who does the final fantasy series. and honestly it shows. yes this game is basically final fantasy with a slightly different combat system and character names.
1000 years of memories? well they will most likely be forgotten again. sorry to say but nothing about this game is really bold or new, to put it in perspective, if you have played final fantasy then you've played Lost Odyssey before it came out. its like someone tried fitting a mario mustache on a game and giving it a different name...
Ok so after making that point twice, heres the run down. Lost odyssey a thousand years of memories is your basic JRPG. turn based combat, relatively 3 dimensional characters and your standard liner story line. minimal exploration or areas and maps and only a few hidden items to reward you for exploring. the story is great and has plenty (if not completely obvious) twists and turns to it. the characters are mostly lovable tho the translations and voice acting can be somewhat off and annoying at points. the lay out of the controller is easy and simple to use, battles run smoothly.
the story (no real spoilers) alright so most of the time you'll be playing as Kaim, an immortal (who dresses like a woman) with no memories of his past as you fight through enemies and challenges against evil and to regain your memories (sounds like a bad Hollywood film already doesnt it?) your paired up with other immortals and mortals throughout your journey and in the end ... well i wont ruin that for you if you want to play through the game. the story is pretty basic and linear however what is different is the small ways in which part of Kaims past are told, instead of intrepid and beautifully done cut scenes, you actually get to read. now this would be great, but... you literally end up reading for about a half an hour at a time sometimes. however you are not obligated to read through his memories and can easily skip over them but whats the fun in that? what i found to be truly annoying is that although there is a lot of dialog and story to tell hardly any of it is done in well rendered beautiful cut scenes, literally half the time you will play for an hour or more to see Kaim slide down a hill, talk to someone to *flash* a 8 second cut scene to show a building or ship *flash* back to the basic graphics and more talking... i guess it bothers me that they were too lazy to render any more than that at a time...
anyway i guess if i had to rate the game based off of the other games coming out right now in the RPG genre, its an above average RPG for story, is average maybe slightly below graphics wise, combat system is basic and average as well. based on a rating against all the other games coming out right now, the graphics are dated, the story is linear but deep and extensive, the battling system is dated and boring, the music is droll and hardly ever changes. basically what i want to get across is that this game is a little below average and seriously fell short of its potential. it takes the safe route bringing nothing new to the genre or videogames in general, but then what can you expect from the guy who makes final fantasy?

Good work, but your review got me thinking....Why dont we start a "Review Fyreball" for miscellaneous users to post their oppinions on new and classic games, extending beyond platforms and even into Flash Games.
TKD Sketch
go for it man. i'll be posting reviews on various games as i play them here on the site as their own Fyreballs but i'd deffenetly drop by a Fyreball like that.
